Tendering & Contracting

The main objective of the Tendering process is to ensure that true competition is achieved under certain criteria. These criteria are usually expressed in terms of financial matters, projected costs over the life cycle of the project, time and proposed methods or levels of capability, reliability and quality of the potential bidders, etc.

Tendering process is usually divided in two categories; single-stage selective tendering or two-stage selective tendering. Both involve the invitation of potential bidders on a pre-approved list, selected because they meet certain minimum standards in general criteria such as financial standing, experience, capability, quality, reliability and competence. The final outcome of the tender is provided on the basis of price and quality. The main difference between the two is that in the two-stage process, the potential Contractor becomes involved in the project at an earlier stage, so the Tender is submitted on the basis of minimal information, and in the second stage the Tender team will develop the precise specification in conjunction with the preferred Contractor. Small scale projects follow the single stage Tender approach.
